Private Cloud Platforms

The below services let you take public cloud infrastructure, private data centers or mix both to build a private cloud on-prem.

AWS Outposts and Azure Stack are quite similar in that they essentially take public cloud computing services and extend them into on-premises data centers.

Using these frameworks, services available in public clouds like AWS EC2 , or Azure Virtual Machines can be run on on-premises data centers. You can also use the same monitoring and management tools that you would in the public cloud.

Azure Stack Hub

Azure Stack Hub brings core cloud services to customers' data centers, like virtual machines, storage, networking, VPN gateway and load balancing, as well as services like functions, containers and database.

Certified hardware can be purchased from a variety of partner vendors, such as HPE, Dell EMC, Cisco, Huawei and Lenovo.

Users need to manage their infrastructure, but professional support from Microsoft is available as part of the platform offering

AWS Outposts

Is a fully managed service where AWS delivers pre-configured hardware and software to the customer's on-premise data center to run applications in a cloud-native manner, without having to operate out of AWS data centers.

Pivotal Cloud Foundry:

Pivotal Cloud Foundry is Pivotal’ s implementation of the open-source Cloud Foundry platform.  It provides a Platform as a Service model for private cloud deployments on-premises or in a public cloud (Azure, AWS, Google).

PCF users have access to self-service functionality as well as automated lifecycle management.

Comments

  1. The article provides a practical overview of private cloud platforms and explains how organizations can extend cloud infrastructure into their own data centers. The comparison of Azure Stack Hub, AWS Outposts, and Pivotal Cloud Foundry is especially useful because it shows different approaches to delivering cloud services, virtualization, networking, storage, containers, databases, and cloud-native applications in private or hybrid environments.

The discussion of Azure Stack Hub and AWS Outposts highlights how organizations can run familiar cloud services within on-premises data centers while retaining cloud-style monitoring and management capabilities. These deployment models are highly relevant to Cloud Computing Projects, particularly for projects exploring private cloud infrastructure, hybrid environments, virtualization, and cloud service delivery.

  2. Another important aspect is the need to consider infrastructure management and protection when deploying cloud capabilities outside public-cloud data centers. Private platforms introduce considerations around secure architecture, access control, data protection, and operational management, making Cloud Security Projects a relevant area for extending these concepts into practical implementations.
